group shot welcome

Sebastian Harvey Speech & Drama provides a creative outlet that allows children to express themselves through the use of voice and movement.  These experiences provide life-long skills including:

  • Improved reasoning capacity and problem solving skills
  • Improved language performance
  • Better memory
  • Greater social & team skills

It is my aim to provide students with a fun, relaxed and supportive learning environment through which confidence, assertiveness and listening skills can be developed.  In the Speech and Drama classroom I encourage children to let go of their inhibitions and express themselves honestly, openly and confidently.

For me, Speech & Drama is a passion and something that I enjoy immensely. This attitude permeates every lesson and is passed onto the children.

Students need to really want to do Speech & Drama and to ensure this each lesson is exciting and dynamic, requiring a cooperative spirit and happy particsipation from all students.

Speech & Drama lessons play an important role in fostering the development of a child.  Speech & Drama offers learning that allows for aesthetic growth; cognitive skills (critical and lateral thinking); social growth; communication skills and empowerment in an active learning environment.

students

Students learn by active participation: by doing.  They gain greater understanding by being active participants in their own learning.

Students become more confident communicators:  They develop greater facility in using more complex language structures and a broader vocabulary. I aim for clarity of speech, animation of face and vocal expression.  In addition, their co-operative skills in partner and group work develop quickly and are drawn on readily.

They learn to take control of their own progress and they are excited by the opportunities presented to them in each lesson, using the strength of the group as a major resource.

Students make significant progress with their personal decision making abilities, listening skills and developing their power of independent thinking, not to mention their literacy skills.

Many parents report that my lessons are the highlight of their child’s week.  I certainly aim to make this true.
